Name: Doppo Kannonzaka

Canon: Hypnosis Mic (the drama tracks/manga version)
Canon Point: Just before the final Showdown between Matenrou/Buster Bros/Fling Posse

Age: 29
Appearance: HERE

History: HERE is the wiki, for reference.

First, some background on the world: weapons have been stripped from men and women have taken their place as chief rulers. Japan knows relative peace; women live in Chuuoku, and men live outside of those walls. Yet despite this peace, territory battles still take place, just with a different medium than guns and bombs. Their words are their weapons, amplified through "hypnosis microphones", which are microphones that can affect the nervous system of any given human being.

Rap is how one gets ahead in this world.

The main six regions ( Ikebukuro, Yokohama, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Nagoya, and Osaka ) are represented by divisons, or three-man teams of rappers that are treated like idols. They duke it out with their mics in Chuuoku, and its seen as entertainment ... There was also once a four-man team named The Dirty Dawg, which dissolved for reasons unknown. Those four now lead their own divisions; Matenrou, Buster Bros, Mad Trigger Crew, and Fling Posse ...

Doppo grew up with the pessimistic personality he still carries in adulthood; this has left him bereft of friends, save Hifumi Izanami. Hifumi has been with him since their youth, and they even live together. Doppo ended up a salaryman, working in a medical device manufacturing office, depressed and pessimistic as ever.

Instead of being sought out by Jakurai Jinguji to join the Shinjuku division, he went the other way around, although it wasn't for the purpose of joining Matenrou. Hifumi had gained a stalker in a woman that often visited the host club he worked at; she even said she would kill him. Despite not having much of a passion or even showing many emotions, Doppo came to Jakurai with a sense of urgency for the safety of his life-long best friend.

Jakurai — a doctor who also uses his hypnosis mic to heal his patients — was surprised, but they healed the woman who stalked Hifumi. It was shortly thereafter that Doppo and Hifumi both were welcomed into the Shinjuku division, Matenrou.
Personality: Doppo is cynical, pessimistic, and self-deprecating at his core; it's because of these traits that he doesn't have many friends. There is, however, his childhood friend Hifumi, who lives with him in canon and seems to be used to his all-around negative outlook. The pair of them get one another's quirks and mannerisms, and even though they don't seem to mesh well at points, they also don't seem as though they're about to part from each other.

Self-conscious and perpetually anxious, Doppo can sometimes be seen spiraling downward and muttering to himself, talking about how he's always at fault. The things he's at fault for, in his mind, can be anything and everything. Even when Hifumi was acting a little over the top and dismissive in Jakurai's office at their first meeting, he began his muttering — believing that the actions of his friend were, somehow, all his doing.

This spiraling is an incredibly hard habit for him to shake. Though he's been gently guided against this tendency, he still stays stuck in it. He also has the quirk of talking too quietly when he's nervous or put on the spot; he has been called out on this fact by both Mad Trigger Crew's Samatoki Aohitsugi, and Fling Posse's Dice Arisugawa. It resulted in a bit of humiliation from him.

During a rap battle, however, Doppo gets more and more daring; it's a stark contrast against the way he acts outside of Matenrou. He borders on hysterical, even — yelling "shut up" again and again in his verse in the battle anthem, for instance. Though he still doesn't put himself first like other people might, he does spring into action to support Hifumi during a chance encounter and ensuing rap battle against Dice and Gentaro. Instead of strictly defending himself as Hifumi did for him, he simply used his rhymes to back up his friend in the face of a couple dangerous adversaries.

While the members of the most popular divisions are often treated like idols, Doppo doesn't quite take well to the popularity; it makes him incredibly nervous. Just as Hifumi has a phobia of women, it seems as though they bring Doppo some anxiety as well. When the pair of them were approached in Chuuoku by women fawning over them, he grabbed Hifumi's hand and bolted.

He also fights for the well-being of his comrades; particularly Hifumi, in their introduction. While he bickers at Hifumi and admonishes him for acting flippant or over the top, he still went all the way to Jakurai's office in the hopes that they could convince him to heal Hifumi's stalker of her illnesses.

He's very grateful towards Jakurai; their relationship started out as patient and doctor, but after Doppo and Hifumi joined Matenrou, Doppo and Jakurai's relationship shifted. There's a mutual respect there, even if Jakurai has to talk him down a bit from time to time. Doppo has proven himself as a valuable member of Matenrou despite his shortcomings. Matenrou, as a whole, might be the division that gets along best, compared to the other three.

Yet when the news came in that Matenrou was victorious over Mad Trigger Crew, Doppo was absolutely wowed; it seems that he has no confidence in his own rapping skills. Or for that matter, any skills he possesses.

He also had to accompany Hifumi on his trip to Jakurai's room, just so that he could confirm the win against Mad Trigger Crew. It wasn't an issue for Doppo to believe even without the added confirmation from Jakurai. What did surprise him, however, was the amount of prize money and the "supremacy" that Matenrou gained over the other divisions.

This suggests that he's more of a practical and down to earth person than he is an idealistic one. The wildest "dream" he seems to have is telling off his bosses, or relocating them; even when he voices them, he feels guilt and tries to take it back.

Yet Jakurai still told both of his teammates that while such things were in the realm of their "supremacy", that they should use their newfound stations for good and good only. Doppo was quick to agree to this.

In general, Doppo has a good heart and cares very much for his comrades; it's just a matter of getting him to care about himself.

ONE

I'm sorry to ask, but I need to know: is this place for real ... ? It seems like a personal hell made just for me ...

( His despair knows no bounds. Still, he can't help himself when he starts to spiral. )

I'm sorry to be selfish ... I shouldn't have said anything. I'm so sorry.

( A few hours pass before another post appears in its stead, the original one deleted. He's looking anxious and harried in a video on the network, scratching the back of his head in a nervous gesture. )

I, ah ... I'm sorry if you saw that display from earlier. It was unbecoming.

( He bows his head, hand returned to his lap. )

I'll be better in the future. Thank you for watching.

TWO

( Doppo ends up ducking into a store, feeling incredibly hot under the collar and embarrassed both that he feels this way. Someone had been hitting on him at his newfound job in the city — pretty hard, saying that they were into his whole shy boy thing.

He had to run, saying it was time for his thirty minute break before tearing out of the situation like a bat out of hell.

Cursing himself for such a cowardly display, he finally realizes where he is: the place he's run to seems to sell porn and toys. He's never been in a store like this before.

He swallows hard, unsure if he should run from that too.
)

... I really am hopeless ...

( He goes through the store, decidedly not touching anything as he tries and fails to not take in any of the lewd displays on the DVD covers, or the toys begging him to buy ... What a way to spend his break. )
